Leonardo Aranda (Mexico City, 1981)

Electronic artist from Mexico City. PhD in Media Study from SUNY Buffalo. Masters in philosophy from UNAM. Bachelor in Visual art from the UAEM. He is the director of Medialabmx, a non-profit organization focused on research on the links between art, technology and politics. His work focuses mainly on the use of new media and its possible intersections with politics, participation and citizenship. He has exhibited internationally in group exhibitions and festivals in countries such as Mexico, Germany, Russia, Austria, the United States, Spain, Canada and Brazil. He worked as a researcher in the Multimedia Center in Mexico from 2009 to 2012. In 2015 he was part of the curatorial team of Transitio_MX 06 International Electronic Arts Festival. In 2016 he participated in IDEAS CITY Detroit, at the New Museum. In 2017 he formed part of Interactivos at Medialab-Prado, Madrid, as well as Radical Networks in Brooklyn, NY. In 2020 he was awarded as a resident of the Solitude- ZKM residency program. His work is part of the Electronic Literature Organization third and fourth collection. He was a visiting professor at the Department of Art and Humanities at UAM-L and was recently a fellow at the New School Institute for Critical Social Inquiry in NY. In 2023 he was invited to give a seminar within the Doctoral Program in Technoaesthetics at the Tres de Febrero University in Argentina. In 2024 he developed the program Cuando las nubes eran de agua, with the support of the Patronato de Arte Contemporáneo in Mexico. He is currently a Processing Foundation Fellow.
